COMMUNITY CLASSES
I have a deep passion for helping people understand their bodies. I am not only an LMT, I also have been certified as a Personal Trainer, a Corrective Exercise Specialist and a Yoga Teacher. Over the course of my career, I've had the opportunity to learn about the body in way that is practical and helpful and have always felt frustrated that we aren't taught the basics about our bodies from a very young age. These classes are my offering of a simplified, useful, integrated view of the body to help you in your life.
The courses I offer will evolve as I come to know more about what the people who attend most want and need to understand. But as we start, here are a few things to know:
-
These are not primarily designed as yoga or fitness classes, though we will use movement to practice what we learn, especially in the practice classes.
-
My aim is to make these classes as affordable as possible, so I’m offering them by sliding scale. If even this is too much, and you or someone you know wants to attend, please let me know so we can figure out what can work.
-
At this point the space I’ll be using is limited in both size and availability. If you are interested in attending, you must reserve your spot and all class reservations are first come first served. If, over time, there is enough interest to warrant increased offerings, I’ll work to make that happen.
-
Finally, the space is on the second floor of a building without an elevator, so I apologize that this limits accessibility at this point.
To reserve your spot in a class and receive information and updates about these and upcoming classes, please email me at massagebyrainey@gmail.com

The Foundations of Your Form: (RE)Introduction to Your Body
Sunday, February 15th, 10:00-11:30AM
Class Size: 16, by reservation
Sliding Scale: $10-$30 Pay What You Can
Prerequisite course for all other courses. (If you can't make this one, but want to attend a future one, let me know.)
A practical (re)introduction to the basics of your anatomy, how your body is designed to function, how it may come into dysfunction, and basic things you can do to help yourself. Most of us have been taught to think of anatomy as a complicated science, full of Latin names and confusing relationships. My goal is show you a more helpful picture of your body that will empower you and spark your curiosity, no matter how you use your body.
My goal is to create a class that you will gain some useful knowledge from, whether you come once or want to come over and over again. Depending on interest, my hope is to offer an evolving version of this course every 4 to 6 weeks.
Foundations of Form Practice Class
Ongoing, Sundays, 10-11:30AM - Beginning Sunday, February 22nd
Sliding scale: $15-$30 Pay What You Can
Class size: 6 participants, by reservation, must have taken the (RE)Intro Course at least once prior to signing up. All participants must bring their own yoga mat and two yoga blocks.
For those of you who want to learn more and practice the foundations of effective form in posture and movement, I’ll be offering a Sunday morning practice class starting February 15th. In each session we’ll be learning about and focusing on a specific principle of movement, and we’ll be learning and using a basic version of Sun Salutation to help us (you don’t need to know Sun Salutation to attend, nor have any experience with Yoga). We’ll also be incorporating other modalities of movement (ex. Pilates, bodyweight training, dance) as we go, to experience how the basics of form and movement are applicable to whatever you’re doing with your body.
